Guatemalan Trip 2011:
March 31 - Wed.
Arriving in Guatemala City where you will be met by your guide and transferred to the PAN AMERICAN HOTEL in Guatemala City.
April 1 - Thurs.
Lunch in Antigua followed by a short city tour. Afternoon free to either rest or walk around the streets watching the famous Carpets being made of colored saw dust and flowers which the Easter Procession to pass over. This Easter celebration is like none you've seen before. (L)
April 2 - Fri.
This morning we will go to San Antonio de Aguas Calientes. First we will stop at Carolinas Huipil Museum then we will visit Andres and watch him make the worry dolls. We will then go to the market in the center of town. Back to Antigua for more of the Easter celebration.
April 3 - Sat.
Ruins
Free day in Antigua. Antigua is famous for it's jade, ceramics and wood products.
April 4 - Sun.
We leave Antigua at 7:00AM for Chichicastinango, the largest and most famous market in Guatemala.We will spend most of the day here shopping and taking photos. Then we will go on to Panajachel where we will stay at the HOTEL RANCHO GRANDE.
April 5 - Mon.
A boat trip across Lake Atitlan to visit the town of Santiago Atitlan.Joann Paulsen Santiago Atitlan is the ancient capital and religious center of Tzutuhiles. We will see another type of market here and get the feel of one of the most authentic highland villages. We hope to find Candus and see and learn more about the art of back strap weaving. (B) (L)
April 6 - Tue.
We will go to Quetzaltenango and Zunil. We will have lunch in Quetzaltenango and go to a weaving coop and a glass factory which recycles Coke bottles. (B) (D)
